That’s a Wrap!

2015 Global Visions Fest draws to a close

Global Visions Festival is re-branding as Northwestfest!

Welp, pretty much everyone associated with the festival – staff, volunteers, patrons – has likely now awoken from their 24-hour post festival nap. 2015 was a banner year for Global Visions – our longest, and most attended festival ever – and, as such, this was a perfect year to retire the GVF identity.

Yes, as Festival Programmer Guy Lavallee announced at the Closing Night screening of Josh Bishop’s Made in Japan, effective immediately Global Visions has a new name: Northwestfest. This is bound to be a little confusing at first (imagine how we feel!) – but stay tuned for news, upcoming screenings and the launch of our new website by following us on twitter, @nwfyeg.

Also announced that night were the 2015 GVF/NWF award winners:

Best Canadian Short: Ruler of the Roost

Best International Short: Elgin Park

Best Canadian Feature: How to Change the World

Best International Feature: Deep Web

Best Alberta Doc: The Little Deputy

Audience Award: Made in Japan

We cannot possibly thank all of the people involved with this year’s festival enough. Our incredible volunteers, amazing sponsors, dedicated staff and unbelievably supportive patrons  make our festival a delight every year!

And of course, our most sincere thanks to the many filmmakers whose work we were lucky enough to enjoy this year. Without you, this would be a pretty boring festival!
